In an environment where the value of care provided is more important than the volume of treatment, what is the mechanism to measure physicians’ performance, including both their quality and cost efficiency?

Healthcare industry is changing swiftly, and the need for an efficient analytics and Business Intelligence is crucial.

So what is Business Intelligence (BI)? Simply put, it is a category of analytics, visualization tools, and data warehousing – all of which are extremely important for a sustainable analytics foundation.

Healthcare has the most complex data recorded. But at the same time, organizations are not tracking them. One of the major flaws for this is the use of terribly developed Business Intelligence (BI) strategy. Any business intelligence strategy has one common element: a foundational clinical data warehouse. A report says that nearly 1 billion terabytes of data were held by hospitals and medical centers – a number they project will grow to more than 40 times that amount by the end of the decade.

This brings us to a question: What is a clinical data warehouse? The answer is simple. It is nothing but a large, specialized library – a repository of logical and physical data that is frequently used to make informed decisions. Just like a well-maintained library, the advantages of a well-designed clinical data warehouse are endless.

Some of the benefits of clinical data warehouse are as follows:

a) Efficient reporting process

b) Consistent data that everyone can trust

c) Meaningful quality improvement

With this in mind, a team of practicing ED physicians from Consensio Health Inc., Data Science professionals from Technosoft Corporation, and experts from the Revenue Cycle Management domain worked together to develop a unique secure online platform. This solution integrates data streams from Electronic Medical Records (EMR), medical billing, and provider schedule data into one single platform to provide you much more than business intelligence. The result is Chantilly.

The goal is to pick up trends before humans can, and shift gears using proactive alerting. For instance, if Dr. X is having issues, is distracted, and his productivity falls below a certain threshold, a red flag is raised. If a payer stops paying, it alerts the appropriate manager to dig deeper. If the revenue is off the expected benchmark, the contracts data is cranked to see the cause.

Chantilly lets physicians to connect their revenue management system, patient scheduling, hospital information systems, and their payroll system - all on a single platform to evaluate and monitor the key performance indicators (KPIs) of the practice group.

Chantilly has a profiling feature that enables doctors to determine their own performance and metrics using reliable indicators, thereby helping them reduce complications and improve their potential. Physicians can draw on multiple data sets to create analytical models. The built-in algorithms automatically highlight the problem areas, based on appointment dates, patient volume, complexity of the treatment, and the physician’s history.

We have three different analysis sections, called Analysis Rooms:

a) Revenue Cycle Financials

b) Provider Productivity

c) Emergency Room Operations

Our core differentiation is that the product has analysis and predictive models in each of these sections

There are two modules in Chantilly:

Cash prediction algorithm takes the historical information about census data and CPT code data, and tries to make predictions on how much cash flow will be coming in, and when.

Provider anomaly detection module looks at the level of service provided by a provider (physicians or advanced practice providers), and identifies the outliers. This helps the physician direct his efforts on addressing the issues and educating the concerned parties to improve the organization.

Other benefits of Chantilly:

  • Improved productivity and efficiency among members of the medical community
  • A readily-available, comprehensive set of utilization data to support early interventions, thereby improving the time spent by the physician on the patient by 10%
  • Minimization of misdiagnosis and errors in judgment; the patient satisfaction index is expected to increase by a minimum of 20%

In recent years, there has been an increase in the shift towards outcome-based payment model. Technosoft is fully equipped to provide services based on this model.

Technosoft uses an actionable intelligence programme, which a client can use and get more enhanced understanding of the drivers of productivity and quality. Technosoft’s analytics solutions integrate and analyze effectively, and provide actionable intelligence in the fields of clinical, operational, and financial management. Some of the major benefits are as follows:

  • Potential to reform processes and optimize results
  • Reduced cost of serving patients
  • Faster revenue collection
  • More accurate allocation of incentives for providers

Technosoft’s analytics solution enhances the quality of care that patients receive, thereby ensuring the regulatory compliance and delivering on-key operational and patient safety. Providers can easily conduct surveys on physicians, their peers, and patients, and make alterations wherever necessary to improve patients’ experience.

The healthcare industry has evolved to a stage where the need for a strategic partner who can explore and deliver innovative and high-value solutions for customers is crucial. Technosoft does just that: deliver best-in-class solutions to clients.

Most of the providers and hospitals across the globe are facing difficulties like rising costs and bad debts, which stress them out, thereby affecting their growth and performance. We, however, have a solution to address these challenges.

Our solution can assimilate with various Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Practice Management Applications, IT Systems, and Scheduling Systems to provide integrated business intelligence.

Data scientists ensure that the root cause of any anomaly would be presented to the ED physician in a scientific manner. Our aim is to work towards providing high-value care, while building a more patient-centric and evidence-based healthcare system.
